OUR MISSION

Shemilah's Outreach Center seeks to solve the issue community gun violence, through involving the youth of Decatur in positive and productive activities. We also strive to provide them with positive role models.  Our philosophy, is that an effective way to reduce youth gun violence is to keep youth occupied in positive and productive ways.

OUR STORY

Shemilah's Outreach Center was inspired by the death of the founder's daughter Shemilah. She was an innocent bystander that was caught up in a local shooting. She was 23 when she passed away.

The founder, Shemuel Sanders, became determined to rid the community of gun violence. He knew that his initiative had to start with the youth. He decided to start the outreach center as a way to engage the city's youth in activities that would teach them valuable skills, help them with their education, and provide positive role models.

His vision has since expanded to an after school program, a girl's dance team, and a summer enrichment program.
